1. Introduce yourself! What’s your name, where are you from, and what do you do?
Hi! My name is Jewelle but feel free to call me Jew or Jewie. 🙂 I am an illustrator – I draw for books and I draw portraits. I am also a content creator, I love creating motivational and hopeful stuff for the internet, and I mentor for a progressive high school for artists and entrepreneurs called Freedom Academy. I currently live in the Philippines. 😊
2. What makes you happiest?
Oh, a whole bunch of things!! We have this saying in the Philippines called “mababaw ang kaligayahan” which basically means “easily amused”.
But I guess if we can boil it down to 4 things, it would be when I am creating art, when I see my dog living his best life, when I’m in prayer, and when I’m spending quality time with family. 🙂
3. What’s your pet peeve?
A really mediocre cup of hot chocolate. 😥 Or maybe a crowded transportation vehicle during a hot day. Insensitive people as well. 😅
4. What is your proudest achievement?
My proudest achievement would be is the fact that my passion is also my job. Even when I was way younger, I’ve always dreamt of just being an artist forever, so I’m pretty proud that I’m fulfilling that dream. I’m also proud that I have a really great support system, that even despite the stereotypes that my country has about artists, they still cheered me on and helped me become a functioning artist hahaha.
5. What will you be speaking about, and why do you think it’s important for homeschoolers to hear?
I will be speaking about the challenges and highlights of being an artist with a homeschooling background – maybe there’s an aspiring artist (whether they’re an illustrator, or a singer, or a sculptor) who’s discerning if that’s the path they should take. I’m also going to talk about how homeschooling has helped me in that decision and how it improved the other aspects of my life as well. 🙂
